“Umsonstläden”, which closest translation to english would be “free shops” are a good alternative if you run out of money, but still need clothes or random stuff to survive the month.
These stores are a social project sponsored by the local government under the principle “too precious to throw it away”. Here people donate all sort of used goods in appropriate conditions. Mostly you can find a mix of clothes, electronic devices, furniture, shoes, books, vinyls, CD’s, even disheware sets and decoration accessories for the house.
Staffed by volunteers, the shops are open to the public in specific hours, so don´t you forget to drop a call before passing by or checking the webpage to verify the opening times.
